NOTES: This is an example of one of the eight tunnel shelters constructed beneath London Underground stations during 1942 by the London Passenger Transport Board (LPTB) for the Ministry of Home Security.
NOTES: This scheme for the London borough of Islington provided 268 houses, 132 flats, a sheltered home for the elderly, a community centre, a medical centre and shops.
NOTES: Thirteen houses were built for the Ministry of Works at Northolt to show alternative types of materials, plans and construction. The steel frame and cladding were designed by Frederick Gibberd and built by the British Iron and Steel Federation.
