St Olave Hart Street, City of London, seen from Seething Lane

NOTES: St Olave's church dates from around 1450 with the tower being added in 1732. This drawing includes the famous churchyard entrance archway of 1658, which is decorated with skulls carved in stone. The drawing was created for publication in 'The churches of London: a history and description of the ecclesiastical edifices of the metropolis', engraved by Le Keux (1838-9)

NOTES: The Horticultural Gardens, South Kensington, were situated on the Kensington Gore estate, which was owned by the Prince Consort and the 1851 Exhibition Commissioners. The land was leased to the Horticultural Society for the creation of the gardens, which were designed by Smirke.
