NOTES: This was a scheme to replace the old Hurva Synagogue, a nineteenth century building by the Turkish architect Assad Effendi, which had been destroyed by bombing in 1948. Lasdun prepared designs between 1979 and 1982 but none were accepted.

Lasdun prepared designs between 1979 and 1982 but none were accepted. This drawing was in a bundle dated May1981 but appears to be a much earlier design, possibly dating from early 1979, and representing a more finished version of Denys Lasdun's concept sketch, published in Architectural Review (in 1983).
