NOTES: The commission for this villa was a result of the visit of Queen Adelaide to her brother, the Duke of Saxe-Meiningen, in 1834. Wyatville was asked to design a large villa on a site already landscaped in the English manner. The 'Oriental' version was the preferred design but the project was never begun. This design uses the general outline of the plan of design A, but with internal variations.
NOTES: Bonomi exhibited a design for the executed stables and coach houses at East Horsley at the Royal Academy of Arts, London, in 1794. Sandling House was built by Bonomi between 1795-99. The inscription states that the stables at Sandling were 'built' dating this record drawing to the late 1790s or perhaps from the early 1800s.
NOTES: Blore produced designs for rebuilding Butleigh Court at the time he was building the Grenville family pew at St Leonard's Church, Butleigh. The designs for the house were not executed.
NOTES: John Webb had bought Butleigh Court and lived there from 1660 until his death in 1672. The original 16th century house had a 7-bay block added to the east by Webb or a descendant. J. C. and C. A. Buckler rebuilt the house adding into the angle of the L-shaped 'Webb' block.
