Phipps, opened in 1893 and was famous for being where the Promenade concerts were founded in 1895. It was destroyed by an incendiary bomb in 1941 during the Blitz.

NOTES: The building was designed 1935-1937 and the shell completed in 1940 when it was requisitioned for wartime aircraft construction. Released by the Government in 1947 the interior was partially completed for use in 1948 but was not finally completed until 1951.
