NOTES: This the original house called Hemsted, which later became Benenden School. It was built by David Brandon for the Earl of Cranbrook (former M.P. Gathorne Hardy). It was altered in 1912-1913 by Herbert Cescinsky when the house was bought by Harold Harmsworth (later Lord Rothermere).
NOTES: The original range dated to the17th century, it was rebuilt in 1738-1739 in a classical style and then remodelled by Barry in 1866 in a Gothic Revival style.
NOTES: The College dates back to the 17th century and has been rebuilt and remodelled over subsequent centuries, including the east range by Charle Barry seen here. See RIBA149290 for a colour version of this image.
