NOTES: During World War II Erno Goldfinger presented his vision of the reconstruction of a post war Britain in a series of exhibitions mounted for the Army Bureau of Current Affairs (A.B.C.A.). In the 1944 ABCA exhibition entitled 'Planning your kitchen' Goldfinger proposed a blueprint for improved hygiene, equipment, layout and modern design in the domestic kitchen.

NOTES: This pier, one of the two on Brighton seafront, was cut off from the shore, partly for safety reasons, in 1975. The structure suffered a severe partial collapse during a storm on the 29th December 2002 and a further collapse on 20th January 2003. The pier was irreparably destroyed by fire on the 28th March 2003.

NOTES: This hostel for Wye College, a College of the University of London specializing in agriculture and horticulture, provided accommodation for about a hundred women students with teaching staff. The hostel also provided amenities which had been lacking such as a library, reading rooms, a quiet room, music rooms and several common rooms.
