NOTES: This pre 1863 ceiling for Carrington House includes depictions of Venus and her maidens, personifications of dawn, noon, evening and night, and figures representing the Arts. Lord Carrington purchased the house in 1810 and occupied it with his son the 2nd Baron until 1863.
NOTES: One of the panel designs incorporates entwined Cs and Royal coronet, another with the order of the Garter and coronet and two others with ornamantal scroll and baluster work. These designs were probably intended as ornament for a ceremonial design with reference to King Charles I. The Garter Star was initiated in 1630.
