NOTES: Arup was the engineer on this project, the architect was Jorn Utzon. Arup was particularly responsible for making the celebrated 'sails' of the opera house possible. Utzon's model showing the development of this motif is in the RIBA's collection (see RIBA13231).
NOTES: La Fenice was originally built between 1790 and 1792 to a design by Giovanni Antonio (or Giannantonio) Selva but was then rebuilt by the brothers Meduna after a fire destroyed the building in 1836. It burnt down again in 1996 and reopened after restoration in 2003. This drawing by Mocatta was probably made in the 1830s before the fire of 1836.
