NOTES: Asplund and Lewerentz won the competition for the new cemetery in 1915 and spent the next 25 years developing the cemetery in a landscape of wooded pines populated by small chapels. The Chapel of the Holy Cross is by Asplund (1935-1940) and the Resurrection Monument by Lundquist seen here, was originally shown at the 1930 Stockholm Exhibition.

NOTES: The Fontana dell'Acqua Felice, also called the Fountain of Moses, is a monumental fountain located in the Quirinale district of Rome. It marked the terminus of the Acqua Felice aqueduct which was restored by Pope Sixtus V in the 16th century. It was designed by Domenico Fontana and built in 1585-1587.

NOTES: Trajan's Column was dedicated in 113. Construction on the Renaissance church of Santa Maria di Loreto began in 1507 led by Antonio Sangallo the Younger. It was completed by Giacomo del Duca in 1582 with the addition of the drum, dome, and the unusual lantern. The Baroque church of Santissimo Nome di Maria was built by Antoine Derizet between 1736 and 1741. The Monument to Vittorio Emanuele, also known as Altare della Patria, was designed by Giuseppe Sacconi in 1895, inaugurated in 1911, and completed in 1935.
