Royal Naval Dockyard, Sandys Parish, Ireland Island: the Commissioner's House

NOTES: The Royal Naval Dockyards were built during the American War of Independence, although most of the construction took place from 1812 and continued until the 1860s. They were built using largely convict labour. The dockyards closed in 1995 and since then many of the buildings have been converted into tourist attractions including the creation of the Bermuda Maritime Museum in the former keep area. The Commissioner's House was built in 1820-1832 using cast iron.

NOTES: Trongsa Dong is the largest fortress in Trongsa. Begun in 1647 on the site of an earlier temple, it was enlarged several times in the 18th century, severely damaged in 1897 during the Assam earthquake, and subsequently restored in 1927 and 1999.
