NOTES: In the nineteenth century Maws & Company was the biggest manufacturer of decorative tiles in the world. The demand for its products declined dramatically in the twentieth century and the factory closed in 1970. Two thirds of its factory buildings were demolished between 1974 and 1977. The remaining buildings were either renovated and converted into flats or restored to form part of the Maws Craft Centre, established in 1988.
