NOTES: This photograph, taken prior to the rebuilding of the bank, comes from the Francis William Troup archive held at the RIBA Library. Troup was a consultant architect to the Bank of England and prepared designs for the rebuilding of the Threadneedle site in 1920. The commission was given to Sir Herbert Baker in 1921 with whom Troup worked initially as supervising architect.
NOTES: From the Moulton-Barrett Volume (p. 86), a volume of originals and tracings of office drawings collected by Octavius Barrett during the time he worked in Barry's office.
NOTES: An inscription on this drawing associates the design with those produced for the house of Mrs Elizabeth Montague, 22 Portman Square, London, although this is unlikely to be the case.
NOTES: See also RIBA21378 for a later copy of this drawing. Chambers began the planning and design of Somerset House in 1776 and worked on it until his death.
