Theatre Bar, Polytechnic of North London, Holloway Road, London: detail of the polished steel light fittings

NOTES: This was a bar created for the polytecnic's theatre. It was orginally a music hall and occupies two buildings a brick and concrete frame, 1960s foyer and an adjoining Victorian hall. The Polytechnic of North London is now the London Metropolitan University and Florian Beigel was the founder of the Architecture Research Unit there. NOTES: Building was originally by Charles Dyer 1839-1841: in 1856-1857 was extended east on to Dowgate Hill by D. A. Cobbett. The first-floor Court Room seen here was refurbished in the 20th century, with a chocolate-brown colour scheme by Cadbury Brown of 1990 and curtains by Eduardo Paolozzi.
