NOTES: This brass is believed by some to commemorate Sir William de Septvans, who died in 1323.

St Mary's Priory Church, Abergavenny, Monmouthshire: detail of the carved figure of Jesse

NOTES: This larger-than-life size figure of Jesse is carved from one piece of solid oak. Originally highly coloured, it formed the base of an intricate and elaborate construction, which depicted the lineage of Jesus Christ from Jesse, the father of King David. It has been estimated that the height of the 'tree' growing from Jesse's side to have been between 25 and 30 feet.
