NOTES: This sketch attributed to Cosway was possibly part of Lewis Vulliamy's own art collection or that of his father, the celebrated clockmaker Benjamin Vulliamy. In the Lewis Vulliamy papers found in a paper folder inscribed 'Drawings and Sketches by / Cosway / Stothard / R Smirke Snr / Gainsborough'.
NOTES: This leaf of figure sketches is in a sketchbook which forms part of a collection of topographical views, sketchbook and miscellaneous observations of the Italian scene produced by Stevens during his time in Italy, 1833-1842.
NOTES: The complete intarsia pavement depicting the Seven Ages of Man was badly worn and removed to the Museo dell'Opera del Duomo, while a copy was set into the floor before the Chapel of the Madonna del Voto in 1870.
NOTES: This sketch appears on the verso of a reconstructed elevation of the Temple of Fortune, Palestrina (Praeneste) by Palladio (see RIBA99456). This sheet is numbered IX/9 in the Burlington-Devonshire Collection.
