SOURCE: Christopher Wren. Parentalia (London, 1750), 'Heirloom copy', interleaved between pp. 194 and 195 NOTES: This page is one of several manuscript insertions in the Library's 'Heirloom copy' of the Parentalia.
NOTES: This larger-than-life size figure of Jesse is carved from one piece of solid oak. Originally highly coloured, it formed the base of an intricate and elaborate construction, which depicted the lineage of Jesus Christ from Jesse, the father of King David. It has been estimated that the height of the 'tree' growing from Jesse's side to have been between 25 and 30 feet.
NOTES: The 15th century alterations to this basically 14th century church, are largely due to the beneficence of Anne Harling (d. 1498). Sir Robert Wingfield was the second of her three husbands.
