NOTES: The house was designed in 1978 and built in 1979, although Gwynne's drawings for this project also include later alterations and additions which were made in c. 1987.
NOTES: The outer images were created by placing a model of the proposed chest clinic onto sheets of photographic paper (featuring a diagram of the building's outline) at different times of the day to illustrate the extent of sun penetration. The dark patches represent direct sunlight, while grey areas show reflected and diffused light. The central design shows the direction of air currents throughout the building.
NOTES: Foster & Partners were responsible for the Willis Building office development built in 2005-2007, and the Richard Rogers Partnership designed the Lloyd's building completed in 1986.
NOTES: This sketch's annotation explains that the image was copied from an original drawing made at the site by the architect Thomas Taylor in 1824, at the time of its discovery. The Roman name for the area of Slack was Cambodunum.
NOTES: Burnet was knighted for his work on the British Museum enlargement project (including the Edward VII Galleries) which was undertaken between 1905 and 1914.
NOTES: This page was removed from sketchbook II of interior details of Carlton House in the possession of the RIBA Library Drawings Collection. The drawings date from between 1787 and 1795 and were probably drawn by two of Holland's assistants, Charles Heathcote Tatham and Jean Pierre Theodore Trecourt. The house was demolished in 1825 and replaced by Carlton House Terrace, designed by John Nash.
