NOTES: Charlecote Park was begun in 1558 by Sir Thomas Lucy, but mainly dates from the nineteenth century, as it was greatly remodelled and enlarged between c. 1847-67, by John Gibson for George and Mary Elizabeth Lucy. The gardens were laid out by 'Capability' Brown.
NOTES: The gate was built by British military engineer Robert Smith in 1835 and is seen here after the fighting which took place around the Gate during the Mutiny of 1857.
