NOTES: Although the foundation stone of the monument was laid in 1817, the project ran into difficulties with construction costs in 1820 and the structure was not completed until 1861, when it was opened to the public. The statue of the Duke of Wellington on horseback was never executed.

Bullers Wood, Bickley, Bromley, London: perspective view of the drawing room

NOTES: John Sanderson commissioned Newton to extend and redecorate his house, Bullers Wood, which had been built in the mid 19th century. Newton extended the house to the east and west, constructing bays with mullioned windows and refacing the building with red brick. The interiors were redesigned and decorated by William Morris.

NOTES: In addition to being a landscape and architectural painter, lithographer and archaeologist, Bouet was also appointed Inspecteur de la Societe Francaise d'Archeologie. This drawing is one of a number of topographical studies and details of French, German, Italian and Swiss medieval architecture executed by him between around 1850 and 1865.
