Frescoes

NOTES: Construction on the chateau began in the 1550s but was completed by Michel Particeli d'Hemery, the surintendant de finance under Mazarin, to designs by Pierre Le Muet between 1643 and 1649.

NOTES: The Katholikon, the larger of the two churches of the monastery, is the earliest extant domed-octagon church.

NOTES: This Jesuit church was built between 1626 and 1650 by Orazio Grassi, Professor of Mathematics at the adjacent Jesuit College. The vaulting of the nave and the apse are decorated with paintings by Andrea Pozzo, a Jesuit brother, representing the missionary activity of the Jesuits.

NOTES: Theodoros Daniel and Michail Veneris were the artists responsible for the frescoes in this church.
