NOTES: The illustration depicts a woman leaving a baby at the door of a house with a man looking out from the window. The door to the house is labelled 'Mr Batchelor' with the baby in a basket hung from the door knocker; the woman is labelled 'Ye Woman' and the man 'Forsaken'. It is presumably Spiers' reaction to a contemporary event.
NOTES: Possibly part of Lewis Vulliamy's own art collection or that of his father, the celebrated clockmaker Benjamin Vulliamy. In the Lewis Vulliamy papers found in a paper folder inscribed 'Drawings and Sketches by / Cosway / Stothard / R Smirke Snr / Gainsborough'.
