NOTES: This High Commission building was designed by Alexander Marshall Mackenzie and his son and built by Dove Brothers. Construction began in 1913 but was delayed by World War I and the building was completed in 1918.

SOURCE: Paul Marie Letarouilly, Edifices de Rome moderne (Paris, 1840 [i.e. 1825?]-1857), vol. 2, bottom half of pl. 128 NOTES: This High Renaissance palace, commissioned by Cardinal Alessandro Farnese in 1515, was begun in 1517, redesigned in 1534 and 1541 by Antonio da Sangallo the Younger, modified under Michelangelo from 1546, and completed in 1589. It has been used as the French Embassy since 1635.

NOTES: This group of drawings for the British Embassy in Washington D.C., date from the late 1920s. These are drawings for the Embassy as built and are therefore office copies, which complement the three autograph sketches for the building that came to the RIBA in 1950. They were preserved in the Embassy as a working collection should the need arise and appear from slight damp damage to have been stored in the basement and forgotten.
