Designs for alterations and additions to the Royal College of Surgeons, Lincoln's Inn Fields, London: plan of basement pipes
|Architect/Designer||Barry, Sir Charles (1795-1860)|
|Subject||Plumbing ; Museums ; Societies' buildings|
NOTES: In 1833 Barry won a competition to replace the existing buildings occupied by the Royal College of Surgeons of England and this building was completed by 1837. The College continued to purchase adjoining property and Barry carried out a new campaign of building works between 1851 and 1854 altering and expanding his original building. These drawings appear to have been passed on to Stephen Salter when he became architect to the Royal College. Salter designed a programme of alterations in the late 1880s which were completed by 1891. This drawing appears to be a copy of Barry's 1854 plan with water and gas services marked.
