NOTES: This public house was on the site of the London County Council's St Martin's housing estate and was designed by the Design Research Unit. The architects were Misha Black, Alexander Gibson and John McNeil. Milner Gray and Ronald Ingles were the lettering consultants and Alan Ball was the designer of the freestanding sign and decorated tile panels.
NOTES: Built on the site of the Shaftesbury Pavilion/Gaumont News Theatre which was destroyed by German bombs during World War II. This cinema on Shaftesbury Avenue at the corner of Frith Street opened on 4th February 1959 as the Columbia Cinema.
NOTES: The Itakeskus Shopping Centre was built in 1984 and occupies the southern side of Tallinanaukio Square and is four stories high. The nearby tower or Itakeskus Landmark is a sixteen storey office block, with a glazed stairtower, was completed in 1987. See RIBA155742 for a colour version of this image.
