NOTES: A parish Church 11th century in origin, but largely rebuilt in the 12th century. Enlarged over subsequent centuries, it was restored c 1875 (including the roof) by George Edmund Street. The outstanding timber roof is 1485.
NOTES: This larger-than-life size figure of Jesse is carved from one piece of solid oak. Originally highly coloured, it formed the base of an intricate and elaborate construction, which depicted the lineage of Jesus Christ from Jesse, the father of King David. It has been estimated that the height of the 'tree' growing from Jesse's side to have been between 25 and 30 feet.
NOTES: This was built as a private chapel-of-ease by William Halfpenny in 1741-1743 for John Cossins of Redland Court, the local manor house, but was not consecrated until 1790. A parish was formed at Redland in 1942 when the chapel became the parish church. Thomas Paty was responsible for the stone carving of the exterior ornamentation and the wooden carving on the interior, particularly that of the chancel, and for the font, executed in 1755.
