NOTES: The relief panels were executed by Bainbridge Copnall.

NOTES: The Bapistery of St John, with the Duomo, forms part of the Cathedral complex. It replaced an older baptistery and was begun in Romanesque style in 1152 under Diotisalvi. The upper part underwent a Gothic transformation by Nicola Pisano and his son, Giovanni, in 1277-1297. The dome was added by Cellino di Nese in the 1300s and the building was finally completed in 1363.

NOTES: The nave is 12th century, the tower mainly mid 13th century, but reconstructed after being burnt out by Montifortian rebels in 1266. The church was added to in the 14th century, including a chapel and over the nave is a 15th century hammerbeam roof. The church was restored in 1875-1878 by W. M. Fawcett.

NOTES: The church is of Saxon/Norman origin and there are fragments of that date, which were placed here by A.W. Blomfield in 1877. The majority of the present church dates from 1340-1350 (chancel) with a tower of 1388-1426.
