SOURCE: Builder, vol. 15, 1857 Aug. 29, p. 495 NOTES: In 1857 a competition was held for Government Offices which would accommodate both the War Office and the Foreign Office on one site. Although the brief indicated that prizes would be awarded for the two parts separately, many architects - as here - submitted a design for both the War and Foreign Offices as one. The results of the competition were, in the end, abandoned.
