NOTES: Harlow New Town, together with the London orbital developments of Basildon, Stevenage and Hemel Hempstead, was built after World War II to ease overcrowding in London. The masterplan for the town was drawn up by Frederick Gibberd in 1947. It is notable for being the location of the first pedestrian precinct and first residential tower block in Britain.

NOTES: This housing scheme on a former aerodrome site was carried out jointly by the GLC, the London Borough of Barnet and the Ministry of Defence. Housing for up to 10 000 people was provided by single-storey, two bedroom courtyard houses to three-storey, four bedroom houses with integral garages, and high-rise blocks in the centre along with new retailing and commercial facilities. Sir Roger Walters was the Chief Architect and Gordon Wigglesworth was the Housing Architect.

NOTES: The masterplan for Priory Green was conceived by Tecton. The second phase, Wynford House (now Priory Heights), began in 1954 and was completed by Skinner, Bailey and Lubetkin in 1957. The Community Housing Association commissioned Avanti Architects to oversee its rennovation in 1997 and it re-opened as Priory Heights in 2000.
