The Viceroy selected Mant's design in June 1875 for the school's main building and its construction began in 1877 but was not completed until 1885. The school was founded with the intention of being the Eton of India.
NOTES: The architect was the Royal Mason, William Wallace and work was continued by his assistant William Aytoun after his death in 1631.The master mason Robert Mylne added the octagonal dome and lantern in 1693.
