NOTES: This drawing is from an album of measured and topographical drawings of buildings in Germany, Italy, Greece and Egypt entitled 'Architectural Sketches' made by George Vulliamy on his travels. This monumental city gate replaced the original in 1583-1584. It was destroyed in 1667 by a fire and was rebuilt by Gaspare Guercio, completed in 1669.
