West Cross, the Round Tower and graveyard, Monasterboice

NOTES: The monastery was founded in the 5th century, the Round Tower was probably built in the 9th century and the three High Crosses (of which the West Cross is one) date from the 10th century.

NOTES: The Memorial to the Missing was to commemorate missing airmen. The design for the first, unexecuted, scheme at Arras was seen in a more elaborated form at the Memorial to the Missing of the Battle of the Somme, Thiepval.

Buckler, Charles Alban (1825-1905)
NOTES: St. Leonard's Church was built in the fourteenth century but was remodelled during the 1850s by John Chessell Buckler. Butleigh Court was designed (1845-1851) for the Very Rev. G. Neville Granville by John Chessell Buckler with Charles Alban Buckler. Described by Pevsner as "neo-Henry VIII", the house lay in ruins for many years until it was restored and converted into flats.
