NOTES: The original tower house was enlarged with the addition of two lower wings. The west wing was rebuilt after a fire at the beginning of the 19th century and the south wing altered to match the other's flat roof and crenellation.
NOTES: The castle was built in the 14th century but major alterations were carried out between c. 1603 and 1606. After being abandoned in 1830 the house and grounds were restored from 1878 by the Lorimer family, including the architect Sir Robert Lorimer.
