NOTES: This part of the defensive Great Wall is 1.4 miles and connects Juyongguan Pass in the west and Gubeikou Great Wall in the east. This section of the wall was first built during the Northern Qi dynasty (550 - 557) and was rebuilt to strengthen its defensive potential in 1569 during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644).
NOTES: Built by Richard Payne Knight, virtuoso, archaeologist and anthropologist, c.1772-1778, this house is one of the earliest contrived castellated castles. Knight was assisted in the early stages of building by Thomas Farnolls Pritchard.
