NOTES: This was a scheme by Denys Lasdun to replace the old Hurva Synagogue, a nineteenth century building by the Turkish architect Assad Effendi, which had been destroyed by bombing in 1948. From 1978-1982 he prepared designs, but none were accepted. This scheme was not the final design.
