NOTES: It was built as a summer residence and living quarters for the Spanish military who were leaving for Spain after they had finished their posting. Originally a one-storey structure made from left over materials by two engineers, Felix Lemau and Manuel Pastor 1837-1840. The top floor was added during refurbishment in the 1850s by a Cuban engineer Mariano Carillo de Albornoz. See RIBA146438 for a black and white version of this image.
