NOTES: This was a scheme by Denys Lasdun to replace the old Hurva Synagogue, a nineteenth century building by the Turkish architect Assad Effendi, which had been destroyed by bombing in 1948. From 1978-1982 he prepared designs, but none were accepted. This is one of the original publication drawings by Crispin Wride which appeared in the Architectural Review, May 1983, and William Curtis's book on Lasdun.
