NOTES: Country house in a landscaped park. The house contained a medieval core from the Priory of St Germans. It had been remodelled in the early 18th century by John Johnson, but left incomplete. Sir John Soane was commissioned to work on the house from 1804-1806. He refaced and remodelled mainly the south and east elevations, but his most transformational work was on the interior, as seen here. The west (principal) front was refaced in 1829 by Henry Harrison (a local architect).
