NOTES: This, the most important medieval public building in Florence, was built between 1299 and 1310 with the completion of the landmark bell tower. It was built as the residence of the Priori delle Arti and the Gonfalioniere and from 1540 onwards it became the ducal residence of Cosimo I de' Medici and his family. It has been the seat of the municipal government of Florence since 1872.
