NOTES: This palace, built by the Bishop of Ely, Cardinal Morton, in 1497, passed into royal possession during the Dissolution in the reign of Henry VIII. It was used as a residence for the royal children and it is where Elizabeth I lived intermittently for the first 25 years of her life. This is the only wing of the original palace that survives.
