NOTES: Although Ahrends Burton & Koralek won the competition, their design was never built. The extension which was constructed in 1991, called the Sainsbury Wing, was designed by Venturi Scott Brown & Associates. The original National Gallery building (part of which can be seen here) was designed by William Wilkins and completed in 1838.
