SOURCE: William Dugdale. Monasticon anglicanum (London, 1849), vol. I, after p. 252 NOTES: This Benedictine abbey was consecrated in 1180. The walls and windows of the upper storey of the abbey were remodelled at the beginning of the 14th century. It was dissolved in 1539 and served as the parish church thereafter. It fell into ruin during the 18th century after the collapse of the west tower and was used for hay storage and keeping farm animals. It was restored in the early 20th century and the remaining part of the abbey was used again as a parish church.
