Layer Marney Tower, Essex: the seven-storey principal gatehouse

NOTES: This is an exemplar of theTudor gatehouse and the distinguishing feature of Layer Marney Tower. It was created by Henry, 1st Lord Marney, who died in 1520, and his son John, who continued the building work but died just two years later.
