NOTES: The Great Hall was rebuilt in 1633 after the Restoration with a late Gothic style hammerbeam roof. It was converted into a library in 1829 by Edward Blore who designed the elaborately carved bookshelves lining the walls. Both the library building and its contents suffered greatly from damage by fire and water during the World War II. It was restored by Seeley and Paget in the 1950s.
