NOTES: The photograph shows the hill from a distance and other buildings in the foreground. Jing shan (Scenic Mountain) is an artificial hill situated north of the Forbidden City, formerly known as Mei shan (Coal Hill). The pavilions on top of its five crests were built in the mid 18th century by the Qianlong emperor.
