NOTES: This was one of a series of Martello towers built around the coast of Ireland in the latter part of the 19th century. It featured in the opening scenes of James Joyces's Ulysses, who stayed there briefly in 1904. It was converted into a museum by Michael Scott & Partners in 1962.
