NOTES: This print was first prepared to appear as plate LXXVII in Charles Parker. Villa rustica. Selected from buildings and scenes in the vicinity of Rome and Florence, vol. III (1841), but here was prepared for the second edition dated 1849 as plate LXVIII. The exteriors of this type of Italian rustic building, according to Parker, combined "picturesqueness and symmetry without disorder or monotony", but he modified "the interior to the wants and manners of this country" [i.e. the United Kingdom].
