NOTES: Following a serious fire among buildings to the north of St Bride's Church late in 1824 the opportunity was taken to purchase by public subscription the land between the church and Fleet Street to open views and access to the church. Papworth was commissioned to design the scheme for which the foundation stone was laid in 1825.
