NOTES: This is from an album of photographs of Rome taken between 1865-1890. The album was part of a collection belonging to Frederick Etchells.The cloister was built between 1208 and 1241 by Pietro Vassalletto and was decorated by Giovanni Cosmati, the youngest of the Cosmati.The basilica was destroyed by fire in 1823 and rebuilt exactly as before. It re-opened in 1840 and was reconsecrated in 1855.
