NOTES: Ashton Wold was built for the Hon Charles Rothschild, whose family acquired the estate of Ashton in 1860. In 1900 Charles commissioned the architect William Huckvale, who had worked for the family at Tring, to design a new house. The commission also included a new model farm, lodges, estate buildings and above all a village. In 1967 Miriam Rothschild commissioned Claude Phillimore to restore the house and convert the upper floors into offices. This image was taken prior to the conversion.
